Sergio Galindo

Portrait Sergio Galindo

Sergio Galindo Received the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia in 2018 and 2020. During his studies he focused on the assessment of femur fracture risk during hip total hip replacements using machine learning over the hammering sound of prosthetic implantation.  Currently, Sergio is pursuing the Ph.D. in Engineering under the Humanics program at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. His work is focused on the development of novel passive transtibial amputation prostheses that includes lateral compliance, and the evaluation of the effect of this additional degree of freedom in gait biomechanics.

As part of his doctoral studies, he joined the SCAI lab as a visiting Ph.D. student in October 2023 through the Leading House ETH Zurich and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Young Researchers' Exchange Programme. His current work at the SCAI laboratory is the development of AI-based gait-in-the-loop design, optimisation, and evaluation pipeline for gait assistive devices, particularly ankle foot orthosis.
